Proud Papa!

My boy Quint, is just about to finish kindergarten.

This is his first school picture. He is smart, funny, and is budding into a genuine Smart-Ass like his father. Makes me proud!

On TV

I’ve been watching a lot of movies on TV lately. I like the films you can only see once. I say once because after you know how it ends it just isn’t the same. I just watched “The Game” with Michael Douglas. “Switchback” with Danny Glover is on now. If you’ve never seen these films, rent them. If you have seen them then you know what I’m talking about.

It would figure that the day after I remodel the Blog the damn Name Server crashes. Just Damn! I tried to get on the Internet at work. Not one page would load. I thought the whole Internet crashed. It didn’t.

I just finished watching two great baseball movies. “Field of Dreams” is Awesome. I really like that movie. It made me want to call my dad. I also watched “Bull Durham.” I couldn’t help but think about the Tim Robbins Susan Sarandon thing. However, the movie is still great. Even though the pair are a couple of asshats, they are good actors. I watched and enjoyed the movie and the controversy melted away.
I really like sports movies, especially Baseball movies. Baseball movies always capture the purity of the game as well as the “National Pastime” thing. I can appreciate that.
As much as I like Baseball movies, I really can’t stand the game. I hate to watch it on TV and the Stadium is no place for a family to go at night. I lost quite a substantial sum of money during the last strike. I will never forgive them for that. I just like the lore of the game. Movies capture the lore of the game. Even though I always know who will win in the bottom of the ninth.

Ok, Here’s the new look for The Dax Files. Things may be a bit quirky, but I’ll iron it all out later than sooner. So your sitting there asking yourself “Why change?” or not. Here’s why, because it’s my page and I wanted to. I use it as my Home page. All my favorite links are there and I got tired of looking at the same old page day after day. I picked the one-year mark because it seemed to be a perfect time for a change.

I chose the “Realtree” camo design for several reasons. I like the pattern in the woods and I thought it broke up a plain text page quite well. I hunt. Not just for wild game but for many things. I’ve been searching for peace of mind for a very long time. I hunt for knowledge. Nothing says, “hunting” louder than a great camo design.

I like a black background. When I get home late at night, my eyes hurt from the smoky bar. The last thing I want to stare at is a giant 21-inch light bulb. Think about it.

I changed fonts. I liked the Comic Sans font. I thought it expressed my whimsical side. However, I kept seeing it everywhere. When I saw it used in a toilet paper commercial, it had to go away. The fonts are cleaner and easier to read. Again, back to the eyestrain thing.

There is no real mystery to the color scheme. I wanted the text to stand out. I tried to match colors to the camo pattern or to contrast with it.

My picture is smaller and in the corner. My good friend and fellow Georgia Blogger Acidman has always liked that picture. Yea, It makes me look cool. I am cool, but that’s going off topic. I like the wisp of smoke in the picture. I didn’t think I could re-create that. I still look like the picture except for my beard has filled in ‘tween the ‘stache. If I can get an updated picture with the same “feel” as the current one, I’ll change it. You can still click on my face to email me.

So there is the rationale for my page change. I welcome your comments. I coded it I can change it.

It’s funny how Ironic the little things in life can be. Here it is Easter Sunday, the Christian day celebrating the resurrection. Here I am announcing the resurrection of my Blog. See tomorrow is the one-year anniversary of this Blog. Not to say I’ll post any more or less, just that you can expect a few format changes.

Speaking of Easter, I just don’t get it. It’s not the fact that the dead come back to life. That requires faith and I can understand that. My biggest problem is the 3-day thing. If the Christ was sacrificed on Good Friday, three days in a tomb would not be Sunday. As the story goes, Christ was nailed to the cross on Friday. I figure it would take most of that day for him to die. So Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon would be one day. Saturday to Sunday would be two. Sunday to Monday makes three. So Easter should be on Monday Afternoon, not Sunday. Believing the time constraints doesn’t take faith. It takes Math. As anyone who has read this Blog knows, I am a bit of a Math freak. Bottom line, Easter just doesn’t add up.
