Niall Mellon TOWNSHIP TRUST is a group of about 1,350 Irish Volunteers who are building houses in Freedom Park, near Cape Town, South Africa.
It is very much the same idea as "Habitat For Humanity" here in the United States.
They welcome any and all donations regardless of how modest donations be. Please visit the web site at WWW.IRISHOWNSHIP.COM.
All donations go directly to the cost of construction. No administrative costs are deducted from donations.
Antoinette, of the Vallhalla B & B mentioned above is one of the volunteers who will be building houses there this winter.
You can contact her and/or post a donation. See their contact page. All donations welcome.

"The Irish Theatre of Florida" , formerly "the Innisfree Theatre Group", is non-profit and is comprised of a group of people perform Irish-themed plays as an avocation.
Visit website for the Crest Theatre in Delray. To contact the group or join, can call Rusty at 561-738-4520 or email Rusty
They also work with the Turf Fire Foundation for which I unfortunately have no working link.

I have a link to a story about them at a Boca News site. I am hoping that they will post a web site.
For 2008, their play was "Raglan Road", by Tom O'Brien.
They performed in the the 2008 Acting Irish Festival hosted by the Rochester Community Players..

For 2005, their play was "ABIE'S IRISH ROSE" . It's about a Jewish lad who marries an Irish lass in 1920's New York and each has to get the mixed marriage deal to be accepted by their respective fathers.

For 2006, they performed the Shaughraun, (pronounced Shock-run), a 19th century Irish melodrama replete with a villain taking advantage of two beautiful ladies down on their luck. Their family home is rescued by Conn, the clever shaughraun, or vagabond.

For 2004, their play was "ECLIPSED", by Patricia Burke Brogan. It was a play about the Magdeline Laundries and was inspired by the author's own experiences as a novitiate in the Magdalene Laundries.
For more background on the MAGDALENE LAUNDRIES,
please visit the Magdalene Laundries Page on Adoption Ireland website.

SEARCH ARRIVALS THROUGH ELLIS ISLAND
Search Ellis Island Website where you can enter an ancestor's name and see if they came through Ellis Island on a ship.

As a bit of Ellis Island Background, it opened January 1, 1892 and 15-year old Annie Moore was the first to cross the threshold of the "Isle of Hope and Tears" along with her two younger brothers. They arrived on the SS Nevada. They reunited with their parents wh had come to USA two years earlier. She later married, moved west, and bore bore first-generation American Citizen children. Ellis Island closed November, 1954 after processing approximately 17 million people (12 million by some sources) who had come for sanctuary. (The song says "1943", but two other sources indicate 1954 as year of closing for Ellis Island until it was reopened as a museum Sept 10,1990.)

Lyrics to "A LITTLE BIT OF HEAVEN", unabridged

I'm fond of this song, but I'm posting the lyrics here more so because I was unable to locate lyrics including the introductory verses anywhere else on the web. I obtained these from John Gary's album version of the song. Hope you enjoy.

'Tis a dear old land of leprechauns
        and wondrous wishing wells
And nowhere else on God's green earth
have they such lakes and dells
No wonder that the angels love
        the shamrock-bordered shore
'Tis a little bit of heaven
and I love it more and more

Have you ever heard the story of
        how Ireland got its name
But I'll tell you so you'll understand
        from whence old Ireland came
No wonder that we're proud of that
        dear land across the sea
For here's the way my dear old mother
        told the tale to me

Sure, a little bit o' Heaven
fell from out of the sky one day,
    And nestled on the ocean
        in a spot so far away;
    And the angels found it,
sure it looked so sweet and fair.
They said suppose we leave it,
for it looks so peaceful there!
So they sprinkled it with stardust
        Just to make the shamrocks grow;
'Tis the only place you'll find them,
        No matter where you go;
Then they dotted it with silver
To make its lakes so grand,
And when they had it finished
        Sure they called it IRELAND!

    Lyrics to "Dear Boss"

also known as "The Sick Note"
It is sung to the tune of the "Garden Where the Praties Grow".

    DEAR BOSS (BRICKS)

Dear Boss I write this note to you to tell you of my plight
And at the time of writing I am not a pretty sight
My body is all black and blue, and my face a deathly gray
And I hope you'll understand why Paddy's not at work today

I was working on the fourteenth floor, some bricks I had to clear
And throwing them down from such a height was not a good idea
The foreman wasn't very pleased, he being an awful sod
He said I'd have to take them down the ladder in my hod

Now shifting all those bricks by hand it seemed so awful slow
So I hoisted up a barrel and secured a rope below
But in my haste to do the job I was too blind to see
That a barrel full of building bricks was heavier than me

Now when I came down I cut the rope and the barrel fell like lead
And clinging tightly to the rope I started up instead
I shot up like a rocket and to my dismay I found
That halfways up I met the bloody barrel coming down

Well the barrel broke my shoulder as to the ground it sped
And when I reached the top I struck the pulley with me head
I still hung on though numbed and shocked from this almighty blow
And the barrel spilled out half the bricks, fourteen floors below

Now when the bricks had fallen from the barrel to the floor
Sure I outweighed the barrel and I started down once more
Still clinging tightly to the rope I headed to the ground
I fell among the broken bricks that were all scattered 'round

As I lay there moaning on the floor, I thought I'd passed the worst
And the barrel struck the pulley wheel and didn't the bottom burst
A shower of bricks came down on me, surely I hadn't a hope
And as I was losing consciousness, I let go the bloody rope

Now the barrel it being heavier, it started down once more
And it landed right across me as I lay there on the floor
I broke three ribs and my left arm and I can only say
That I hope you'll understand why Paddy's not at work today
