Dog Training

My name is Bill Carnes. I have trained dogs for over 10 years and I have taught hundreds of people how to train their dogs. I have worked with dogs of all ages and sizes, from Great Danes to Chihuahuas - From 6 week old puppies to 14 year old dogs. I have helped people solve almost every behavior problem imaginable.
What will you learn?
I will teach you how your dog thinks and how he learns. You will learn what motivates him and I will show you how to motivate him to do the things you want and how to motivate him not to do the things you don't want him to do. I will show you how to housetrain your puppy, stop your dog from destructive chewing and jumping on people. I will teach you how to set the rules of the house so that your dog will know what is acceptable behavior and what is not. You will learn how to properly socialize your puppy or dog so that he is a confident well behaved family member. In the future, you will have the ability to teach him any behavior that he needs to learn because you will understand the principles of animal behavior and training.
Your dog will learn the rules of the house plus the basic behaviors:
1. Sit (& Stay)
2. Down (& Stay)
3. Come (Most important)
4. Walk on a loose leash
5. Go to your place
6. Wait
He will learn to be a happy obedient family member who knows who is in charge and to obey the rules of the house. Most importantly, he will learn how to learn so that it will be easy to teach him in the future.
Training Method
We will use reward based positive training methods. We will use clicker training to teach your dog behaviors and make him want to obey you the first time every time. Clicker training is generally accepted in the training world to be the fastest way to teach any animal desired behaviors. Dogs actually enjoy clicker training and have a lot of fun with it. You will find them actually getting excited when they realize training time is here again. We will wean them from the clicker as each behavior is learned so that it won't be necessary to have a clicker with you at all times.
All the lessons take place in the privacy of your own home, free of distractions and disturbances. You and your dog will learn in the place in which you both are most comfortable and relaxed. Your lessons will take place at a time convenient to you and your family. (I suggest the whole family take part in the training program.) You will be expected to work with your dog for 2 to 3 10 minute training sessions a day each day during the training period. This small commitment of time is all you need to make your dog the dog you want him to be.
Equipment needed
You will need a clicker that I will provide for you free of charge and soft treats. I will give you a starter package of good treats. A 6' leather or nylon leash is desired. A 4' leash is acceptable. You will need a plain buckle or snap collar made of either nylon or leather. We will NOT use a choke collar, nor a pinch collar, nor a "shock" collar. We also will not use a "flexi leash". You just can't train a dog on a "flexi leash". Most of the training will take place without using a leash at all. Your dog will enjoy the training so much that it won't be necessary to restrain him while teaching him new behaviors.
A well trained dog is a pleasure to live with. You can take him places with you and have visitors in home and not be disturbed by an undisciplined dog. Your friends will thank you, your vet will thank you and all your family members will thank you.
