New CCD Images

Up

All CCD images here were taken with a Starlight Express MX716 monochrome CCD imager.  Unless otherwise noted, images were taken either through a 10" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain (SCT) telescope, a 90mm f/13.8 Maksutov-Cassegrain, an 80mm f/5 refractor, or through a piggyback mounting on the 10" SCT through Nikon lenses as specified.  The 10" SCT may have also been fitted with a focal reducer (FR) to flatten the field and reduce the focal ratio to either 6.3 or 3.3.  Guided shots were taken using a S.T.A.R. 2000 guiding system.

Crab Nebula (M1) - Supernova Remnant in Taurus.  The one on the left has the outer hydrogen regions brought out.

Trifid Nebula (M20) - Emission/Reflection nebula in Sagittarius

Dumbbell Nebula (M27) - Planetary Nebula in Vulpecula.

Ring Nebula (M57) - Planetary Nebula in Lyra.

M13 - Globular cluster in Hercules.

M66 - Barred spiral galaxy in Leo

M101 - Spiral galaxy in Ursa Major

Whirlpool Galaxy (M51) - Sum of 2-90 second images (unguided) processed with max entropy 8 interations.  80mm telescope.

Orion Nebula (M42) - This is actually a film image taken with a Nikon FM3a through the 80mm refractor.  Exposure time was 25 minutes (guided) on Agfa Vista 800 film.  I was very pleased with the star images and the contrast.

Moon - Taken through the 80mm F/5.
